Equipment and technologies for each type of analysis

Directly serving Quality Control and Research & Development, the Moellhausen central chemical laboratory is equipped with the tools and technologies needed for managing highly advanced analytical techniques, including gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and spectrophotometry, among others.
The analytical systems in Moellhausen can sustain a very high daily load and are useful for the characterization of essential oils and other vegetable derivatives as regards their authenticity, the identification of adulteration, the determination of geographical provenance, and rigorous quality control.
Moellhausen avails itself of its own analytical equipment and, through ongoing research agreements with selected institutes, can make use, when necessary, of the most advanced instrumentation and analytical technologies, including GC-MS/MS, and LC-MS/MS. 

 

We capture and identify each volatile component

GC/MS system equipped with PAL type autosampler (thermostated trayholder and robotic vial processing; static headspace; SPME extraction, liquid injection).

 

 

We know complementary liquid components

HPLC system (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) equipped with UV-DAD detector and preparative type autosampler.

 

 

 

Thousands of products under a single “nose”

"Electronic nose-type” analytical system able to highlight olfactory analogies through multivariate analysis of flash CG/FID plots.

 

 

We recognize the work of nature

GC/FID system with apolar and chiral columns for determining authenticity and identifying adulterations of essential oils and other plant derivatives.
SNIF-NMR and GC-IRMS analyses are carried out - when necessary - by delegated institutes.

 

 

 

Fragrances tested for each application

We are prepared to develop fragrances for any scented product, and we guarantee real-time control of all the technical and application parameters defined in the project objectives. Moreover, we include the best objective evidence of the fragrance’s contribution to the expression of our client's "marketing concept".
Accordingly, we perform a wide variety of functional stability tests in water-alcohol solutions and on complex bases, for cosmetics and "toiletries", household products, intritutional and industrial cleaners (I&I), and many other products.
We always assure customers of objective value by conducting statistical sensory evaluations in the critical phases of end product use; hence we test the washing of fabrics, dishes, hard surfaces, and we simulate other processes of end product use, entrusting a panel of experts and other assessors with the evaluation of the fragrance from multiple points of view.
We perform all these tasks according to the specific objectives of each project, and our maximum effort is applied to meet or exceed every expectation with excellent solutions.


 

 

 

Measuring quality to bring value to creativity

Each product development project is associated with a consistent quality control program which, in the case of fragrances, also includes the verification of its “expressive capacity” within the original end-product concept.Our olfactory characterization covers every predetermined goal: persistency (long-lasting), "radiance" and "bloom", and consistency with the project’s technical requirements.
Indeed, our statistical organoleptic analysis allows creativity to be "objectified"; that is, we parameterize the degree of originality of a given fragrance by testing its "organoleptic difference or affinity", when compared to a set of reference fragrances.
The process of verifying our fragrances’ originality is completed with an instrumental test (multivariate statistical analysis of GC/FID flash plots), which can identify classes of products that show olfactory affinity with references in our huge company databanks. We conduct rapid "olfactory scans" of over 14,000 references.
