Environmental labeling of packaging

On 11 September 2020, the legislative decree 3 September 2020, n. 116, which transposes EU directive 2018/851 on waste, and directive (EU) 2018/852 on packaging and packaging waste, has been published. The decree made important changes, introducing the obligation of environmental labelling for all packaging released for consumption in Italy.
Furthermore, on 21 November 2022, the Ministerial Decree n. 360 of 28 September 2022, which adopts the Guidelines on environmental labelling pursuant to art. 219, paragraph 5, of the legislative decree 3 April 2006, n. 152, for the correct fulfillment of the packaging labelling obligations by the responsible subjects, has been published.
For waste management, as regards the Italian territory, it is recommended to refer to the legislative decree 3 April 2006, n. 152 – Part IV – Regulations on waste management and remediation of polluted sites and product classification in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, for other territories it is recommended to refer to applicable national laws.
